We're at the Poplar Nurseries site in Marks Tey, as shown on this map. Sat Nav users can use CO6 1HR.
What is your relationship with Poplar Nurseries?
We operate in close co-operation with our friends at Poplar Nurseries, but we are a separate company operating at their site under a lease arrangement.
Are all train steam hauled?
We own several steam engines that can be used on busy days, as well as our steam outline engine Rosie. Most people can't tell the difference, except for the smell ! To know what engine we are using, check out our regular Facebook posts
Do we need to pre-book tickets?
Not for normal events. Very occasionally we run special events where we pre-sell the tickets online but usually the answer is no.
Do you take credit cards?
We prefer cash transactions, as the bank charges are less, but we can accept Credit or Debit cards. Unfortunately we can't accept American Express.
Can we bring our dog?
No, sadly dogs are not allowed on the Poplar Nurseries site, guide dogs excepted.
How long does the ride last?
You should allow about 5 minutes for boarding the train, the journey and disembarking afterwards.
Do you operate in bad weather?
Nobody wants to sit on a train on a cold and wet day so we do reserve the right not to operate in bad weather. Please check our Facebook page for details of service cancellations.
Can I buy a season ticket or visitors pass?
We no longer sell season tickets but we do sell an all day wristband for £5 that gives the holder unlimited rides on the main train all day.
